Bathroom Light Fixtures
A simple and effective way to update your bathroom and immediately make it look more stylish and modern is to fit it with new bathroom light fixtures. Effective lighting is an important feature in any bathroom design, but there is no need to sacrifice style to obtain the clear and efficient lighting you need.
If you are completely re-designing your bathroom with all new fixtures and fittings then you might want to begin by choosing the shower enclosure and tub you like best, then incorporate bathroom light fixtures in a matching design. However, if you need to keep the existing fittings and just want to update your lighting, then you will have to make your choice of lights accordingly.
Overhead and Ceiling Lights
Overhead lighting in a bathroom can be as elaborate or as subtle as you desire. A modern, minimalist decor style looks best with recessed lights or functional but attractive polished chrome or stainless steel and white light fixtures. On the other hand with an antique style bathroom, perhaps with a claw foot free-standing tub you could go for a more elaborate overhead light fixture or even a chandelier.
For a smaller bathroom, or one with inadequate ventilation, there is the option of incorporating a ventilation fan with overhead lighting. This type of fixture looks far better than a wall mounted extraction fan and helps add to the clean lines of a modern bathroom.
Wall Lights
Wall lights are an excellent option for bathroom lighting fixtures. Wall fitted spotlights can be fixed and angled to provide maximum light where required, for example above or next to mirrors used for shaving or make-up application. Modern wall lights can have individual pull switches or can be wired into the same switch as the ceiling lights.
A single ceiling light plus one wall light might be sufficient for a small bathroom, or you might choose a wall light fixture with three or four individual lights for a larger room.
Mirror Lights
The one place you are most likely to need effective illumination in the bathroom is by the mirror. You can solve this by fitting an illuminated mirror. These are available in a variety of styles, shapes and designs to suit all sizes of bathroom and all decorating styles. A small circular, wall mounted mirror that can be angled as desired is useful for shaving, whilst a large square, movie-star style mirror with rows of lights down each side is perfect for make-up application.
For a fun look to your bathroom, illuminated mirrors are available in dolphin, starfish and other marine related designs.
When planning your new bathroom lighting, it is a good idea to visit a bathroom showroom to get an idea what the various types of light fixtures look like within a room setting. There are also interior design websites that you can visit to get some ideas and options for your new bathroom light fixtures. Installing new lights can completely alter the way your room looks and brighten up your bathroom decor whether new or old.
